We’re not just dedicated to your smile; we’re also dedicated to your overall wellness and health. We also include regular oral cancer screening as a part of your regular dental exam. Like other types of cancer, oral cancer can be life-threatening if it is not diagnosed and treated early.

We have the tools and skills that help us identify any early signs and symptoms of oral cancer and other pre-cancerous conditions in your mouth. We have a simple, quick screening process that involves a thorough examination of your entire mouth, not just your teeth. We will also feel your mouth and throat’s tissue for signs of abnormalities. Some of the signs and symptoms of oral cancer we look for include:

  • Red/white sores or spots in the oral cavity
  • Sores that bleed easily or do not heal
  • Lumps or rough spots
  • Pain or numbness anywhere in the oral cavity or lips
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking, or moving the tongue or jaw

If we find any areas of concern that may have one of the above signs, we may recommend you to an oral surgeon for a biopsy.

  • Oral cancer screening will allow the dentist to identify early signs of oral cancer.

  • Finding early signs of oral cancer with oral cancer screening will allow the dentist to provide immediate, non-invasive treatment.

Prevention is the best kind of treatment for oral cancer. There are many healthy practices you can perform to aid in oral cancer prevention, including:

  • Avoid tobacco products.

  • Only drink alcohol in moderation.

  • Maintain a balanced, healthy diet.

  • Ask for an oral cancer screening during your regular appointment.
